Education Management is the second largest proprietary postsecondary education provider in North America. As of June 2011, Education Management had a student enrollment of 150,700 in its 107 primary locations in 32 states and Canada as well as online. Education Management's educational institutions offer a broad range of academic programs concentrated in the media arts, design, fashion, culinary arts, behavioral sciences, health sciences, education, information technology, legal studies and business fields, culminating in the award of associate's through doctoral degrees as well as non-degree programs. Education Management has provided career-oriented education for over 40 years.
Education Management provides education through four primary systems: The Art Institutes (www.artinstitutes.edu), Argosy University (www.argosy.edu), Brown Mackie College (www.brownmackie.edu) and South University (www.southuniversity.edu).
Leeds Equity, as a result of its experience and expertise in the Knowledge Industries generally and in the postsecondary sector specifically, developed the investment thesis that led to the acquisition of Education Management. Leeds Equity conceived, sourced on a proprietary basis, structured, and led the $3.4 billion take-private acquisition of Education Management in June 2006. This transaction was the largest buyout of an education company and the first going-private transaction in the postsecondary sector.
Education Management was relisted on NASDAQ in October 2009 and trades under the ticker symbol EDMC.
